Banyan | Gewürztraminer | 2022 | Monterey Co, CA
Banyan was created in 2002 with the idea to make wines that would pair with Southeast Asian cuisine, particularly the Thai food Kenny grew up eating. At one point, there was Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Viognier. Over time, the line has been trimmed to what has always been its most popular wine, the Banyan Monterey County Gewürztraminer.
The 2022 Gewürztraminer is a wonderfully aromatic wine, with a perfect balance of sugar and acidity. The grapes were mechanically harvested and given added skin contact time, resulting in pronounced aromatics and savory fruit flavors. Fermentation lasted for 50 days at 52 ̊F, producing a slightly sweet and well-balanced wine. The end result is a subtle, but distinctly aromatic wine that is true to the variety.
