The grapes were harvested at 19 brix, macerated for 4 hours on the skins, and fermented in stainless steel. The wine was aged in barrel for 3 months before bottling for secondary fermentation. It was aged 6 months in bottle before we disgorged it by hand. This short tirage time emphasizes the wine’s freshness.

The Long Goodbye is Robert Altman’s 1973 adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s detective novel of the same name. It’s a sprawling mess of a film, chock full of Altman’s signature overlapping dialogue and circular plot twists.

It doesn’t have anything to do with the movie, but Josh secretly chose this name because he grew up in the midwest, and the Minnesota Goodbye is real. One minute you think you’re leaving a party, the next you’re talking about some sports team everyone cares too much about, or maybe your dreams for the year ahead. This fresh sparkler is as good a reason as any to stay for just one more glass at the barbecue.

Winemaker and founder, Josh Hammerling, started working in cellars, vineyards, and tasting rooms in Washington State in 2014.

Many low-intervention experiments in friends’ garages led to a fascination with classic and experimental expressions of sparkling wine. In 2017 he moved to Berkeley to work for Broc Cellars and Donkey and Goat while he got his project off the ground. He settled on Berkeley for his winery to take advantage of its proximity to the Central Coast to the south and Mendocino to the north. It’s the ideal location for sourcing fruit from distinctive, responsibly farmed vineyards.
